Sanitize PDF

Rebuild a PDF clean: document metadata is cleared, embedded file attachments, JavaScript, open actions, outlines and annotations are removed. Page content is copied unchanged.

About this tool

PDFs collect invisible extras: author metadata, embedded attachments, JavaScript, open actions, comments and form data. This tool rebuilds each file from clean page copies so none of that survives, and reports exactly what was stripped from each document.

The rebuilt file is a reading copy — page content is copied pixel-for-pixel and text stays selectable — but forms, outlines and attachments are gone by design. Keep the original when you still need them.

How to use Sanitize PDF

  1. Choose up to 20 PDF files (20 MB each).
  2. Run — each file is rebuilt from clean page copies and the result card lists exactly what was removed.
  3. Download the sanitized PDFs.

Keep the original files and inspect the exported result before publishing or sharing it.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is removed?

Title/author/subject/keywords/creator metadata, embedded file attachments, JavaScript actions, the open action, the bookmark outline and all annotations (comments, highlights, stamps, link boxes).

What happens to form fields?

They are removed too — a sanitized copy is a clean reading copy, not a fillable form. Keep the original if you still need to fill it.

Is page content changed?

No. The drawn content of every page is copied exactly; text stays selectable and images keep their resolution.

Does this remove viruses?

It removes the usual PDF-carried extras listed above, which covers embedded scripts and attachments. It is a hygiene tool, not an antivirus scan.
