AI chat

Chat with OpenAI, Claude or Gemini using your own API key. Your key stays in your browser; requests go straight to the provider.

About this tool

This is a bring-your-own-key chat window for the OpenAI, Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini model families. Instead of another subscription, you paste an API key you already have: the key is stored only in this browser’s local storage, and every message travels directly from your browser to the provider you picked — there is no Localcraft server in the conversation, and we cannot see your key or your chats.

The arrangement suits developers evaluating models, anyone comparing how different providers answer the same question, and people who would rather pay per-token API rates for what they actually use than a flat monthly plan. You pay your provider’s ordinary rates; Localcraft charges nothing and adds no markup. The conversation lives in this tab and can be cleared at any time, and the key can be removed from the panel whenever you like.

How to use AI chat

  1. Pick a provider and paste your API key in the key panel — it is stored only in this browser.
  2. Choose a model, type a message and send.
  3. The conversation stays in this tab. Clear it any time. Your key is never sent to our servers.

Keep the original files and inspect the exported result before publishing or sharing it.

Frequently asked questions

What does BYOK mean?

Bring Your Own Key: you supply an API key from OpenAI, Anthropic or Google, and the tool calls their API directly from your browser. We never see or store your key.

Where is my API key stored?

In your browser’s localStorage under “localcraft_ai_keys”. It never leaves your device except in direct HTTPS calls to the provider you chose.

Which providers are supported?

OpenAI (gpt-4o-mini, gpt-4o), Anthropic (Claude 3.5 Sonnet/Haiku, Sonnet 4) and Google Gemini (1.5 Flash, 2.0 Flash).

Does chatting cost money?

You pay your AI provider’s normal API rates for the tokens you use. Localcraft charges nothing and adds no markup.

Can I remove my key?

Yes — use Remove in the key panel, or clear your browser’s site data. Removing it here deletes it from this browser immediately.
