Compare PDFs

Compare the text of two PDF versions line by line and get a readable diff report: what was added, removed and left unchanged.

About this tool

Two versions of a contract, a paper, a report — and the question is only "what changed?" This tool reads the embedded text of both PDFs, aligns it line by line, and writes a diff report with the unchanged, removed and added lines clearly marked.

The comparison is deliberately textual. It catches wording and number changes; it does not compare layout, images or formatting, and scanned pages have no text to compare.

How to use Compare PDFs

  1. Choose exactly two PDF files — the older version first, the newer second.
  2. Run the comparison; both documents are read page by page.
  3. Read the diff in the preview and download the .txt report.

Keep the original files and inspect the exported result before publishing or sharing it.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is compared?

The embedded text of both files, line by line, in page order. Layout, images and formatting are not compared — two files can diff clean and still look different.

Which file is A and which is B?

The first file you choose is A (the original), the second is B (the revision). Lines marked "- " exist only in A; lines marked "+ " exist only in B.

What about scanned PDFs?

Scanned pages have no embedded text, so they compare as empty. This tool does not perform OCR.

Is there a size cap?

Extracted text is capped at 2 million characters per file batch, the same limit as the other text tools.
