About this tool
Most background removers upload your photo to a cloud service. This one takes the opposite route: it downloads an AI segmentation model (BiRefNet, running through Transformers.js) to your browser once — about 40 MB, cached for later visits — and then separates the subject from the background entirely on your device. No account, no API key, and the image itself is never uploaded anywhere.
The output is a transparent PNG ready for product listings, profile pictures, design work and documents. Subjects with a clear outline — people, products, pets — separate most cleanly; busy backgrounds can leave artifacts around fine detail such as hair. The first run takes a little while because of the one-time model download; after that, processing starts immediately.
How to use Background remover
