Essay rubric grader
Grade an essay against a fixed rubric — IELTS Task 2, TOEFL, CET or a general rubric — with a score per dimension, the quoted sentences behind each score, and a concrete fix list.
About this tool
Asking a chatbot "what band is my essay" gives a different number every time, because nothing anchors the judgment. This grader anchors it: pick a fixed rubric — IELTS Writing Task 2 with its four official dimensions, TOEFL, CET-4/6, or a general rubric — and each dimension is scored separately, with the exact essay sentences behind the score quoted as evidence, plus the deductions and the fixes that would raise it.
The overall score is not a number the model invents; it is the weighted sum of the dimension scores, computed on your device with the rubric’s published weights. If a dimension comes back missing, the scorecard says the overall is partial instead of papering over the gap. Re-grading the same essay after revision gives a comparable score, which is what makes practice measurable.
How to use Essay rubric grader
- Add your provider API key in the key panel.
- Paste the essay (or upload a file) and pick the rubric; weights and dimensions are fixed by the rubric.
- Each dimension is scored with quoted evidence from your essay; the overall score is the weighted sum, computed locally.
- Export the scorecard as Markdown and work through the fix list.
Keep the original files and inspect the exported result before publishing or sharing it.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the score more stable than asking a chatbot?
The rubric, dimensions and weights are fixed in the tool, and every dimension score must quote the essay text it rests on. The overall is arithmetic done locally, not a number the model invents.
Which rubrics are available?
IELTS Writing Task 2 (four band-scored dimensions), TOEFL Writing, CET-4/6 Writing, and a general essay rubric.
What if a dimension is missing from the result?
The scorecard says so and marks the overall as partial instead of guessing the missing dimension.
