AI code explainer

Paste code and get a plain-English explanation using your own OpenAI, Claude or Gemini API key. Language auto-detect included.

About this tool

Reading unfamiliar code is slow when you have no context: a library snippet, a colleague’s script, a regular expression copied from a forum. Paste it here and, using your own API key, a model walks through what the code does section by section in plain English, at the detail level you choose.

The language can be auto-detected or set explicitly — JavaScript, Python, Java, C, C++, C#, Go, Rust, Ruby, PHP, TypeScript, SQL, HTML/CSS, Bash and more. Your code is sent only to the provider you selected, over HTTPS; Localcraft never sees or stores it. Minified or obfuscated code produces weaker explanations because names and structure are already gone, so formatting the code first gives noticeably better results.

How to use AI code explainer

  1. Save your provider API key in the key panel.
  2. Paste code, optionally set the language and detail level.
  3. Read the explanation. Your code goes only to the provider you chose.

Keep the original files and inspect the exported result before publishing or sharing it.

Frequently asked questions

How does it explain code?

The model walks through what the code does, section by section, in plain language — no jargon unless you ask for detail.

Which languages are supported?

Auto-detect plus JavaScript, Python, Java, C, C++, C#, Go, Rust, Ruby, PHP, TypeScript, SQL, HTML/CSS, Bash and more.

Is my code private?

It is sent only to the AI provider you selected, over HTTPS. Localcraft never sees or stores it.

Can it explain minified code?

It will try, but minified or obfuscated code loses names and structure, so explanations are less useful. Format it first if you can.
