YAML to JSON Converter
Convert YAML configuration into strict JSON in your browser. Paste a YAML document or drop a file, check the JSON and download it — no upload, no account.
YAML is friendly to write, JSON is what tools demand
YAML won the configuration wars because humans can read it, but many tools, APIs and test harnesses still accept only strict JSON. The data converter above turns a YAML document into equivalent JSON locally: mappings become objects, sequences become arrays, and scalars become JSON numbers, booleans, nulls and strings. Paste the document or drop a file up to 5 MB and download the result.
What is deliberately not supported
The converter accepts JSON-compatible YAML data. Custom tags, anchors and aliases are rejected with an error instead of being half-understood, because a converter that guesses at your config is worse than one that refuses. Comments and blank-line formatting have no JSON equivalent and are dropped. Keep those boundaries in mind and the output is exactly the data your YAML described. Related trips in the same tool: CSV to JSON, JSON to CSV and Excel to CSV.
Configs stay on your machine
Configuration files leak architecture — service names, environments, internal endpoints. Converting them in your browser means that information never leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Which YAML features are supported?
JSON-compatible YAML data is supported: scalars, arrays and objects with ordinary indentation. Custom tags, anchors and aliases are rejected rather than silently misread, and comments and formatting do not survive into JSON.
Why did my YAML fail to convert?
Usually indentation: YAML structure depends on consistent spaces, and tabs are not allowed for indentation. Anchors, aliases and custom tags also cause a rejection — expand them into plain data first.
Do YAML types survive into JSON?
Plain scalars map naturally: numbers, booleans and null become their JSON equivalents, and strings stay strings. YAML-only types such as dates become plain text values in the JSON output.
Can I convert JSON back to YAML here?
Yes, the same data converter converts between JSON and YAML in both directions, as well as between JSON and CSV, from the conversion menu above.
Is my configuration uploaded?
No. Config files often contain internal hostnames and keys, so the conversion deliberately runs only in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored.
