PDF to DOCX Converter

Convert a PDF into a DOCX file you can open and edit in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. Text is extracted in your browser — check the honest preview before you download.

Why DOCX is the format you actually want

When someone asks for a "Word file", they almost always mean a file that opens, edits and tracks changes cleanly in a modern editor — and that file is DOCX. It is the native format of every Word since 2007, the format Google Docs converts to and from without complaint, and the one LibreOffice handles best. The PDF to Word converter above therefore produces DOCX directly: your PDF's text is extracted locally and rebuilt as an editable document, not a picture of one.

Set expectations before you convert

A PDF stores where ink goes, not what the text means. Headings, columns and tables are reconstructed from positions, so a simple report converts beautifully while a magazine layout will need manual tidying. The built-in preview exists for exactly this reason — look at it before downloading, and you will know in five seconds how much cleanup a document needs. Image-only scans have no text to extract at all; those need OCR first, which this tool deliberately does not fake.

After the download

Open the DOCX, check headings and page breaks, and re-apply your template styles if it is a house document. If you need the return trip later, the Word to PDF converter turns the edited file back into a PDF. For a second opinion on the same job, the convert PDF to DOCX page walks through the same conversion with a document-checklist angle.

Private by design

Contracts, CVs and reports stay on your device. Conversion runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded or retained.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between DOC and DOCX?

DOC is the older binary Word format (Word 97-2003). DOCX is the current XML-based format used since Word 2007 — smaller, more robust and supported by Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice. This converter produces DOCX.

Will my formatting survive the conversion?

Text, paragraphs and basic structure carry over; complex layouts — multi-column pages, floating images, elaborate tables — are approximated. The preview shows honestly what the DOCX will contain before you download it.

Can it convert scanned PDFs?

Scanned pages are images, so there is no text layer to extract. This tool does not run OCR; run the scan through an OCR tool first, then convert the text-based result.

Which Word versions can open the file?

Any Word from 2007 onwards, plus Google Docs and LibreOffice. If a recipient is on a very old Word, they can open DOCX with Microsoft's free compatibility tools or in Google Docs.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Extraction and DOCX generation happen in your browser. Your document never leaves your device.
