PDF to Word Converter
Turn a PDF into an editable Word document. Free text extraction in your browser — honest about what survives the trip.
What you actually get
A PDF is a fixed-layout picture of a document; a Word file is editable text. Converting between them means giving up the layout to gain editability. This tool reads the embedded text of each page, in reading order, and rebuilds it as plain paragraphs in a standard .docx file. The download opens in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice as ordinary editable text — no locked boxes, no images of words. For a .docx-specific walkthrough, see convert PDF to DOCX.
What does not survive
Honesty matters here more than anywhere: complex layout does not survive. Multi-column text may read out of order, tables collapse into plain text runs, and headers, footers, footnotes, images, fonts and styling are dropped. If your PDF is a simple report or article, the result is usually very usable. If it is a designed brochure or a complex form, expect to spend time reformatting — the tool gives you the words, not the design.
Scanned PDFs and OCR
A scanned PDF contains no text at all — just photographs of pages. There is nothing embedded to extract, so the output would be empty, and this tool does not perform OCR. How to tell: try selecting text in your PDF reader. If you can select it, extraction will work. If the "text" is just part of the image, you need an OCR tool first, then you can edit the result.
Private by design
People convert resumes, contracts and manuscripts — documents you do not email to a stranger's server. Extraction runs entirely in your browser: the PDF is parsed locally, the .docx is assembled locally with JSZip, and you can preview the extracted text before downloading anything. Close the tab and nothing remains. There is no account, no queue and no watermark on the output.
Frequently asked questions
Will the Word file look like the PDF?
No. This tool extracts text content into editable paragraphs. Complex layout, tables, images, headers, footers and styling are not preserved — always review important documents against the original.
What about scanned PDFs?
Scanned pages are images without embedded text, so there is nothing to extract. This tool does not perform OCR.
Which text is extracted?
Embedded text from each page in reading order, rebuilt into paragraphs — up to 2 million characters per batch.
Can I edit the result immediately?
Yes. The download is a normal .docx with plain paragraphs, ready to edit in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.
Are encrypted PDFs supported?
No. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are rejected. Export an unlocked copy first.
