Healthy Weight Calculator
Find the healthy weight range for your height — the weights that put an adult's BMI between 18.5 and 24.9. Enter your height in the calculator and read the range straight from your result.
From a healthy BMI band to a weight range
Most people do not think in BMI units — they think in kilos or pounds. This page flips the BMI calculator around: instead of asking what BMI your weight gives, it asks which weights are healthy for your height. The maths is the BMI formula run in reverse across the World Health Organization's normal band, 18.5 to 24.9. Multiply each end by your height in metres squared and you get a range: at 165 cm, about 50.4 to 67.8 kg; at 175 cm, about 56.6 to 76.3 kg; at 185 cm, about 63.3 to 85.2 kg.
How to use the range honestly
A range is a map, not a verdict. Falling just outside it does not make you unhealthy, and sitting inside it does not guarantee health — muscle mass, where fat is carried, fitness, blood pressure and family history all matter and none of them appear in this calculation. Athletes often sit above the range on muscle alone. Use the band to orient yourself, then let the trend of your own weight and how you feel do the rest. The Body Mass Index calculator page covers the categories and limitations in full.
Small changes beat big targets
If your current weight is above the range, the useful question is rarely "how do I reach the bottom of the band?" but "what change can I keep for a year?" Even a 5% weight reduction is associated with measurable improvements in blood sugar and blood pressure in clinical guidance. Set the first goal at the edge of the range, not the middle.

Frequently asked questions
How is a healthy weight range calculated?
Take the healthy BMI band, 18.5 to 24.9, and run the BMI formula backwards for a given height: weight = BMI × height². At 170 cm that gives roughly 53.5 kg to 72 kg; at 180 cm, roughly 60 kg to 80.6 kg.
What is the healthy weight range for 5'9"?
Five foot nine is about 175 cm. The healthy band for that height is roughly 56.6 kg to 76.3 kg, or about 125 lb to 168 lb.
Is the top of the range a target I should aim for?
No. It is a screening band, not a goal weight. Anywhere inside it can be healthy depending on build, muscle mass and medical history. Aim for the part of the range you can maintain comfortably, and get personal advice from a clinician.
Does the healthy range differ for women and men?
The BMI band behind it is the same for adult women and men. Pages focused on each — the BMI calculator for women and the BMI calculator for men — explain the body-composition caveats that apply.
