HEIC to PNG

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to lossless PNG in your browser. Every pixel preserved, nothing uploaded.

When lossless matters

For sharing and viewing, HEIC to JPG is the right call: small files, universal compatibility. But JPG achieves its size by permanently discarding image data, and each re-save degrades quality a little more. If you are going to edit the photo — color grading, compositing, heavy cropping — start from a lossless file instead so you are not stacking compression artifacts on top of your edits. PNG preserves every decoded pixel exactly.

How it works

This page mounts the HEIC to JPG converter with PNG selected as the output format. The heic2any decoder runs in your browser, converts each photo’s full pixel data, and encodes a PNG locally. Nothing is uploaded. Quality presets do not apply to PNG because lossless has no quality dial — what you get is the exact decoded image.

The trade-off: file size

Expect PNGs several times larger than equivalent JPGs. A 2 MB HEIC can easily become a 10–20 MB PNG. That is inherent to lossless storage, not a bug. For photos you will only view or share, JPG is the saner choice; reserve PNG for masters you intend to edit or archive.

Practical notes

Editing workflow tip

A practical workflow: convert the HEIC masters to PNG once, do all your edits on the PNGs, and export JPGs only at the very end for sharing. This way the lossy step happens exactly once instead of compounding across saves. Keep the original HEIC files too — they are half the size of the PNGs and serve as compact backups.

Private by design

Conversion runs entirely in your browser tab. Your photos never leave the device, and closing the tab discards everything.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose PNG over JPG?

PNG is lossless: every pixel of the decoded photo is preserved exactly. JPG discards some data to shrink the file. Pick PNG when you plan to edit the photo afterwards or need archival quality.

How much bigger are PNG files?

Substantially — often several times the size of an equivalent JPG. That is the price of lossless quality.

Does PNG keep transparency?

HEIC photos from a camera have no transparency to keep, but the PNG container itself fully supports alpha channels.

Can I convert in batches?

Yes: up to 20 files per batch, 20 MB each, 80 MB total, with a single ZIP download.

What about Live Photos and metadata?

Only the still frame is converted; motion segments are dropped. EXIF camera metadata may not be preserved.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Decoding and encoding happen locally in your browser tab.
