Convert HEIC to JPG

Turn iPhone HEIC and HEIF photos into widely compatible JPG files right in your browser. Batch friendly, nothing is uploaded.

Why HEIC files need converting

Since iOS 11, iPhones have saved photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default because it stores the same quality in roughly half the file size of JPG. The catch is compatibility: Windows Photos only opened HEIC after a separate codec install, many Android gallery apps still struggle with it, and plenty of web upload forms reject .heic outright. Converting to JPG solves all of that at once — JPG has been universally readable for three decades.

How the conversion works here

This page mounts the HEIC to JPG converter, which decodes your photos with the heic2any library directly in the browser. Choose JPG for small sharing-friendly files or PNG for lossless quality, then pick a quality preset for JPG output. Pixel content is converted faithfully; camera metadata, Live Photo motion and burst stacks are not carried over, so review each download before sharing. Batches of up to 20 files are supported with a single ZIP download.

HEIC vs JPG: what changes

HEIC uses more modern compression, so an HEIC original is typically about half the size of an equivalent JPG. When you convert, expect the JPG to be larger than the HEIC you started with — that is normal and not a sign of a problem. The High quality preset keeps visible quality intact for viewing and printing at normal sizes. If you plan to edit the photo heavily afterwards, convert to PNG instead: it is lossless, though the files are much bigger.

Tips for smooth conversions

Private by design

Phone photos are personal. This converter never uploads anything: decoding and encoding happen inside your browser tab, and closing the tab leaves nothing behind. There is no account, no queue and no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need to convert HEIC to JPG?

HEIC is Apple’s default photo format and many Windows apps, older devices and web services still cannot open it. JPG opens everywhere, so converting is the simplest way to share iPhone photos with anyone.

Will converting reduce the photo quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so strictly speaking some data is discarded. At the High quality preset the difference is invisible in practice; choose PNG output if you need pixel-perfect lossless files.

Can I convert many HEIC files at once?

Yes. Batches of up to 20 files (20 MB each, 80 MB total) are supported, and you can download the whole batch as a ZIP.

What about Live Photos?

Only the still image frame is converted. The motion segment and sound of a Live Photo are not included in the output.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. A decoder library runs in your browser tab and your photos never leave the device.

A file failed to convert. Why?

Encrypted, DRM-protected or damaged HEIC files are rejected, as are files over 20 MB. Export a fresh copy from the Photos app and try again.
