Percent Calculator

Work out any percentage in seconds — what share one number is of another, a percentage of a value, or the change between two numbers. Free, instant, and everything runs in your browser.

The three percentage questions, answered

Most percentage questions fall into three buckets, and this percentage calculator handles all of them. "What percent of" answers questions like "50 is what percent of 200?" — the answer is 25%. "Percent of value" answers "what is 20% of 150?" — 30, the number you need for tips and discounts. "Percent change" answers "from 50 to 75, how far did it move?" — a 50% increase. Pick the mode that matches your question, enter the two numbers, and the result appears together with the formula used, so you can check every step yourself.

Everyday uses: tips, discounts and grades

A percent calculator earns its keep on ordinary math. Splitting a restaurant bill? Find 15% or 20% of the total for the tip — it settles bill-splitting debates in seconds. A sale sign says 30% off $80? That is $24 off, so you pay $56. Checking a test score? 42 correct out of 50 is 84%. Because decimals are supported, awkward numbers like 17.5% tax on $23.40 work just as well as round ones.

Percent vs. percentage points

People often mix these up. If an interest rate rises from 5% to 7%, it rose by 2 percentage points — but the percent increase is 40% (2 ÷ 5 × 100). News headlines about "a 2% rise" usually mean percentage points, which is a very different number. When in doubt, compute the percent change with the percentage increase calculator and read which one you actually need.

Private by design

Salaries, bills and grades are personal. This calculator runs entirely in your browser: nothing you type is uploaded, stored or tracked. There is no account to create and no history kept on any server — once the page has loaded, it even works offline. Close the tab and your numbers are gone.

Frequently asked questions

What can a percent calculator do?

"What percent of" finds what share one number is of another (50 is 25% of 200). "Percent of value" finds a slice of a number (20% of 150 is 30). "Percent change" measures the move from one number to another (50 to 75 is a 50% increase).

How do I calculate what percent X is of Y?

Divide X by Y and multiply by 100. For example, 30 ÷ 120 × 100 = 25%. The calculator shows the formula with your numbers so you can check it.

How do I find X percent of a number?

Multiply the number by X and divide by 100. A 15% tip on $60 is 60 × 15 ÷ 100 = $9. Decimals work too — 17.5% of $23.40 is $4.095.

What is the difference between percent and percentage points?

A move from 5% to 7% is 2 percentage points, but a 40% percent increase (2 ÷ 5 × 100). They answer different questions — use the percent-change mode when you need the relative move.

Is anything I type uploaded?

No. Every calculation runs locally in your browser. Nothing you enter leaves this page.
